Laurel Mississippi

 Day 8 (2/13/22)

Bye Pensacola, we DO love you!

Had to stop to get propane!  It was quite chilly this morning with no heat!  Turns out, though, it wasn't the propane, but a loose sail switch in the furnace.

SO, off to Laurel Mississipi!

Check out this road near Mobile, Alabama...........I wouldn't want to be on that road in bad weather!

HELLO LAUREL, home of HGTV's Hometown with Ben and Erin Napier!  It did not disappoint!

Welcome to Laurel, Mississippa!

Me at the Laurel Mercantile...

Everything in the mercantile and also Scotsman General Store is made in the USA!  And really and truly very well priced!  I was kind of expecting it to be crazy expensive!

This place is called the Scent Library.  All the candles in this shop were created by Erin, and they all have names that correspond with what they smell like, e.g., Pancake Day! .... smells like you are in your kitchen making pancackes!  Spent quite a bit of money in this store and then had to figure out where to store all the candles in my truck camper!  Don't worry, I found a place!

This is Ben's workshop that you see on TV..  They were not filming today, so I was able to take this picture (it is connected to the General Store).

It was a wonderful day for me and I am thankful Ernie agreed to stop in this adorable town!

Ok, so NOW what!  We have to find somewhere to spend the night!  DeSoto National Forest was the choice!  It took a little time and a lot of googling, but we found a spot at a place called Black Creek.  Drove several miles down a gravel/dirt road, then another gravel/dirt road in the middle of absolutely NOWHERE!  This was the way into our camp!

See that blue dot in the middle of the forest, that was where we camped!

Now don't get me wrong, this was a beautiful spot, especially when it is light outside!

Side NOTE:  I have a good video that I posted on Instagram that shows our camping area, but I cannot figure out how to convert a MOV file to a PNG!  If anyone has any clue, PLEASE let me know!  Otherwise, follow along on Instagram (wherethebuckarethey) and you can see the video!

HOWEVER, when it is dark, that is a different story!  Ernie was going to build a little fire and I said, I AM NOT SITTING OUT HERE!
We played a couple hands of Gin to kill time, and that took us until about 7pm!  Ernie even offered to close up the camper and move to a Walmart or Cracker Barrel parking lot!  He said he wouldn't even tell anyone that I was acting like a baby (not in a mean way mind you), but I said NO, go build a fire and I will sit by it!  It turned out to be a nice evening!  The stars were AMAZING because it was SO dark, and I never, even once, heard any bears (or deer or rabbits or Sasquatch) shuffling in the woods!
But we did pull out before 6am because my cell signal wasn't strong enough for my laptop and I had to work, SO..............off we went!

Stopping over in Lake Charles, Louisiana....more to come Y'ALL!

Yes, I am starting to say Y'ALL! 😉
