Louisiana

 Day 9 (2/14/23)

Happy Valentines Day!  💞  Happy Birthday Lisa Simmen!!!!!!!

Forgot to post the picture from yesterday of this pine cone!  It's as big as my foot!  They sure grow'em big in the south!

Heading for Lake Charles, Louisiana!

HIT THE BRAKES...........saw a Camping World!  Ernie stopped to see if we could get a new Sail Switch for the furnace!  It pooped out again last night! I am very thankful that my husband knows how to do almost everything!  Otherwise, we would be in quite a pickle!

Maybe if we can't get the furnace fixed, we can finish the trip in this bad boy!

Just kidding, I really do love the truck camper!

All is well......back on the road thanks to Mr. Fix It...Ernie (and Gene, I don't want any snide comments from you!  LOL)

The Horace Wilkinson Bridge is an awesome sight, it crosses the mighty Mississip!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (kind of, KIND OF reminds me of Pittsburgh, 2 cities on the river)!

Atchafalaya Basin - This is a delta area where the Atchafalaya River converges with the Gulf of Mexico.  Although, the pictures do it NO justice!

God Bless the USA!  No other words needed!

SO.....Lake Charles was a bust!  We didn't feel comfortable in this area!  Now granted, I'm sure Lake Charles is a lovely place, but you really can't tell from the highway!  We decided to keep on driving!

The stars at night, are big and bright (clap clap clap clap)

And I thought Ohio was flat, not as flat as Texas!

On FreeRoam (an app used to find camping all over the US) we found Claiborne West City Park!
$3 and you can stay 3 nights!  It is a beautiful little park and we were the ONLY people staying here!  The staff was very pleasant and even left the bathrooms open for us before the LOCKED the gates!  LOL!

They even have a beautiful little pond, where you can fish.....

AND get eaten by an alligator!

So I was reading this sign, very close to the pond, and my husband thought it would be a good idea to sneak up and grab me by the ankle!  Did you hear me scream in Pittsburgh???

We were all ready to enjoy sitting outside all evening at this beautiful little park, when buzz, buzz, smack, smack....MOSQUITOES!  Tiny little mosquitoes invaded our space!  It literally forced us into the camper, where we spent the next 45 minutes swatting mosquitoes.  It was actually quite laughable!  But we got them all, and IF we had to go outside, one of us would stand by the door to shoo any skeeters that were thinking of coming inside, away!

Therefore, cards and....

WINE! (Don't judge my lovely hairdo....I am camping, after all)

Heading for Crystal Springs Beach tomorrow, near Galveston, TX!  Say a prayer we can find a place to camp!

NIGHT!
