Day 11 (2/16/23)
I really hate for my first picture today to be that of the bites I have on my legs, but I have had them since Pensacola and they seem to be spreading! I look like I have measles or leprosy! They do not itch, are not sore, just YUK! The first thing I thought of was bed bugs, but I checked, and re-checked and not a sign! Ernie has a few, but nothing like me!
Ernie researched and came up with NoSeeUms, yes there is such a thing! I think they are some kind of sand flea bites, but I have been treating with alcohol, and they just aren't going away!
Needless to say, the FIRST stop today is the Washateria Laundromat! I am washing everything on that bed!
Prior to arriving at the laundromat, we had to take a ferry from Crystal Springs to Galveston, which was pretty cool! It was an 18 minute ride and was very interesting! We had taken a ferry about 20+ years ago down to Ocracoke in the Outer Banks, but that was the last ferry ride I took!
Nice clean clothes and bedding .....now for a nice clean Robin and Erne in a nice HOT shower! Ernie joined Planet Fitness because they are all over the US and we figured it would be a good place to grab a shower while traveling. We COULD workout there too, but.....
Welcome to Galveston! Unfortunately, the weather isn't cooperating with us! Definitely not beach weather!
My friend Denise told me I had to visit Murdoch's!
When I tell you it sits right on the beach, I am NOT kidding! There is a deck where husbands can sit and drink a beer while waiting for the wives to shop! Genius!
Anybody that knows the Buck Family knows our favorite movie of all time is Forrest Gump! If you didn't know that about us, you do now! Whenever we are flipping through channels and see that it is on, that is what we watch! Seems fitting we should stop at Bubba Gump Shrimp for lunch!
Ernie Gump!
Shrimp is the fruit of the sea, you can barbeque it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute' it. They's uh, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. They's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That, that's about it!
Because the weather is less than desirable, we decided to get closer to Waco, by way of Houston!!!! But this is as close to Houston as we get! I thought Pittsburgh traffic was bad..........!!!
Some things I noticed about driving in Texas! They are crazier than Pittsburgh drivers....
70 MPH on a country road.......
Love the road signs though.....
Long stretches of road, and I mean LONG and you either see cattle in the field or the good old US flag with a Texas flag right next to it!
The other thing about Texas, GPS doesn't always get you to where you want to be....On the way to Limestone Lake Park #2, yes that is the name of it, got to our location only to see...............
Ok, so now what! We googled the name of the park...Limestone Lake Park #2 and it was 12 more miles away! Drove on cattle roads (I think they were cattle roads, because the weren't paved roads by any stretch of the imagination!) Top speed 15 MPH (but we did get passed up twice on those cattle roads!)
FINALLY, made it to our camp for the night, a quiet beautiful little spot by the lake! But as my good friend Kurt would say, "It was colder than a witches heart"! Leftover Bubba Gump shrimp and an early night!
Night!!!
