Sante Fe, NM

 3/14/23

Santa Fe, NM

My cousin John and his wife Tish live in Santa Fe, NM.  They have been quite the travelers for some time now, and are heading to Portugal on March 19.  I'm sure they were very busy getting packed, but were very gracious and invited us to spend the night in their beautiful home!  Our plan was to park in their driveway and we would sleep in our camper, but Tish insisted we sleep in a bed and even insisted we do a load of laundry (she knows what it is like to travel across the Country)!

This is their driveway (they are avid bicyclists)

After they made us a very nice lunch, and the laundry was in the washer, they took us for a nice little hike with beautiful views!

That evening, we went into the city of Santa Fe, strolled through the streets, and even shopped a little!  Bought some Alpaca socks (ON SALE)!  Then to a great dinner!

Had a great night's sleep in a comfy bed and woke to a glorious view!  I asked Tish if she ever took this view for granted....she said NO, she did not!

After a HOT shower and a delicious breakfast prepared by John and Tish, we said goodbye and wished them safe travels (they will be gone for 10 weeks)!

They are the most gracious people and we SO appreciated their hospitality!

Heading back East on Interstate 40, which shares the road with Historical Route 66, we stopped at Clines Corners! GET YOUR KICKS......on Route 66!

Had to get a Route 66 hat (Ernie got one too)!

We attempted to get a picture of us in our matching Route 66 hats, but the selfie stick was giving us problems!  I guess you had to be there, but we laughed a lot trying to get this photo!

I have never heard of the Blue Hole, but we had to see what all the fuss was about!  It is a natural, DEEP hole that is very popular with scuba divers or those that want to learn to scuba dive since it is very deep!

Now some of Route 66, has several thriving business, but SO many old motels and buildings are abandoned!  It was very sad to see all the places that look like a ghost town!

The Buckaroo Motel is still going strong!  LOL!  Once again, I wish I could upload a video because I put one on Instagram that would give you a better idea of Route 66!

Back in Texas again........you have NO idea how many cattle were along this road (it had to have been some kind of stock yard because there were THOUSANDS) and I have to tell you the smell was AWFUL (I mean AWFUL)!  Plus, there was a haze that settled over them that we can only assume was the gas that was produced from all those cow farts!

Stopped for the night at Camping World (FYI, if you are traveling, you can camp there for free)!

It was free, but it was LOUD because it was just off Interstate 40!

Because we are nearing the end of this trip, the next few days won't produce much in the way of blog material, but if something cool comes up, I will be sure to post it!

We are on our way to North Carolina for the wedding of Alexia and Cody (2 of the most kind young people you will ever meet)!  Plus, they love the Lord!

More to come, just not sure when!
